(WSBT) Miguel Amaya’s two-RBI performance, plus five shutout innings from starting pitcher Tyler Thomas were more than enough to propel the South Bend Cubs to a 5-0 victory over the Bowling Green Hot Rods Thursday night at Four Winds Field.

South Bend (5-2) with the victory, concluded a six-game home stand with four consecutive triumphs over the Hot Rods (3-5), with a solid mix of timely hitting and overwhelming pitching being the largest factors in the series closer.

In addition to Amaya’s two key hits, Zach Davis, Rafael Narea, and Tyler Payne also collected run-scoring singles on Thursday. On the mound, Thomas struck seven Bowling Green batters, improving to 1-1 on the season with an impressive 0.90 ERA.

The Cubs begin a six-game road trip Friday night in Ohio against the Lake County Captains. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. on 96.1 FM WSBT, the Sports Leader.
