It appears Notre Dame has settled on its new men’s basketball coach, with multiple reports Wednesday that Penn State’s Micah Shrewsbury will take over for the departed Mike Brey. A report from Stadium’s Jeff Goodman says Shrewsbury will get a seven year deal at more than four million dollars a year, and that Notre Dame is paying a four million dollar buyout. Shrewsbury took a Penn State program that hadn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since 20-11 to the second round in his second year. Past coaching stops in Indiana include IU-South Bend as head coach, and assistant jobs at Butler and Purdue.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame football opened spring practice on campus Wednesday, and coach Marcus Freeman says day one was good. The Irish have 14 more practices leading up to the Spring Blue-Gold game April 22nd. Irish women’s basketball resumes NCAA Tournament play on Saturday, with an early 11:30am tipoff in Greenville, South Carolina against Maryland of the Big Ten. A win Saturday would send Notre Dame to the regional final on Monday against either UCLA or top overall seed South Carolina for a berth in the Final Four. The NCAA men’s tournament resumes tonight with regional semifinals in the Sweet 16 round, with live coverage starting at 6 here on Sports Radio 960 WSBT.
