Notre Dame senior place kicker Jonathan Doerer has been named to the 20202 Lou Groza Award preseason watch list, given annually to the best kicker in college football.
Doerer had a historic season in 2019. The North Carolina native was a perfect 57-for-57 on extra points while hitting 17-of-20 field goal attempts. His 108 points were the most in a single season by any Notre Dame kicker in history, and was the first time that an Irish kicker was able to score more than 100 points in a single season. Doerer hit two kicks of 50 yards or more in 2019 including a 52 yard attempt against rival Southern California, his longest of the season.
Doerer also handled kickoff duties for the Irish in 2019, averaging 60.2 yards per kick with 40 touch backs.
The Groza Award will announce 20 semifinalists on November 5, and the three finalists will be named on November 24.
