Ex-Irish Coach MacLeod Dies at 81

There’s word today that former Notre Dame and NBA coach John MacLeod has died at the age of 81.

MacLeod coached the Notre Dame men’s basketball team from 1991-99, and his son Matt was a member of the team during his father’s last two seasons.

The Associated Press reports that Matt confirmed Sunday his father has died, after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for a number of years.

MacLeod is best remembered nationally for 14 seasons coaching the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, including an appearance in the 1976 finals, where they lost in six games to the Boston Celtics.
