Notre Dame dominates second half in 45-23 win at Virginia Tech

Notre Dame broke open a tight game in the third quarter Saturday night in Blacksburg, Virginia, as Dexter Williams got the Irish out of a hole with a 97 yard touchdown run for a 24-16 lead.

Virginia Tech (3-2) had just pinned the Irish deep with a punt, and their fans were fired up. but Williams broke through the line and outran the pursuit to the end zone.

From there, Notre Dame (6-0) dominated for a 45-23 win that included a fumble returned for a touchdown by Julian Love, after Khalid Kareem stripped the ball as he sacked the quarterback.

Notre Dame moved up to number five in national college football polls released on Sunday.

Next up for the Irish, a home game Saturday afternoon against the Pitt Panthers, an unranked team with a history of giving the Irish tough games.
