NOTRE DAME-- Sunday, Notre Dame fans will be anxiously awaiting results of the latest BCS standings -- for the first time since 1993, The Irish will be number one.
After Notre Dame's win Saturday and Oregon and Kansas State's losses, people began converging around midnight outside Grace Hall.
Their eyes were glued to the top of the building where a huge Number 1 sign sits atop the roof.
The crowd of fans hoped it would be lit up to signify what they predict the polls will show on Sunday.
But for people old enough to remember the last time it was lit for the football team, the realization began to set in that it probably would not be lit until Sunday after dark, after the new BCS standings are announced.
Some current ND students said they have seen it lit before for the fencing or soccer teams, but never before for the football team.
If you are wondering what it looks like, see the picture above for a view of when the sign was lit in December of 2010 for the ND womens soccer team.
