Police say as Amish residents in western LaGrange County attended Sunday church services this summer, an Elkhart woman burglarized their homes.

Marylou Ann Richards, 34, already in jail in Elkhart County on unrelated charges, was served Friday with arrest warrants in the LaGrange County burglaries.

A "pattern of burglaries" between late July and early August was reported, but a break in the burglaries came when a homeowner confronted Richards when she asked for directions. The homeowner got the license plate number from the vehicle she was driving and called police.

Richards is accused of burglarizing at least two houses in which cash, checks and credit cards were stolen, according to an Indiana State Police news release.

Richards was stopped by Middlebury Police on Aug. 15 for a traffic violation and arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants from Elkhart and Goshen. Elkhart County jail records list Richards with an Elkhart address.
