• Fathers need to teach their children respect and to work hard for what they want because nobody is going to give you anything.

Townsend’s daughter, Drapel, said her dad is a wonderful father.

“When I think about what makes my Dad such a good father is that he is a enabler,” said Trotter.

“I say enabler in a positive way in the sense that if someone is sick, he will bring food, you need a listening ear, he’ll be there for you and if you need prayer, well Dad’s there. He is all the things for us that his father wasn’t for him.

“His long life is really a testament to prayer. His brilliance comes from a place deep with in him. The fact that he has had to face things that would have been devastating to others, but he just handles them with dignity. In Dad’s life, the power of prayer and his faith have sustained him. His love for our family keeps him going.”

Townsend said he doesn’t regret any of the sacrifices he made for his daughters.

“Because it is a wise father that knows his own children,” Townsend adds.
