SOUTH BEND – You probably have it lying around somewhere in your house -- the phone book.
It's reliable, easy to use, but there's something wrong with Yellowbook's latest edition for South Bend and Mishawaka.
"I opened it up and I looked at the cover and I realized that's not our county courthouse or a building in our skyline," said Jesse Vogel, who lives and works in downtown South Bend. "And looking at it a little further, I realized it's Allen County where Fort Wayne is, their courthouse and their Lincoln Tower building in downtown Fort Wayne."
The Fort Wayne area is not included in the South Bend phone book.
"I want everyone to love South Bend as much as I do and with all the negative press we've been getting lately especially within the last year from people saying we're a dying city and all that to have a phone book company put another county on our cover, that's not even in our area, it's kind of a slap in the face, don't you think?" Vogel said.
"They should probably fix it, but in the grand scheme of things of things, I'm not too worried about what's on the cover of the phone book. We got a lot to think about in our community, and to be honest I didn't even notice it," said Mayor Pete Buttigieg.
The truth is, most people probably haven't noticed the cover and those who have may not even care. But Jesse Vogel does. He cares a lot and says you should, too, especially if you paid for advertisement.
"But it should be everybody who advertises in here, all these St. Joseph County businesses should say to Yellow Book, what's up with this? Why is it that you have somebody else on our phone book?" he said.
"As long as the information on the inside is right, I guess they always say you can't judge a book by its cover, right?" said Mayor Buttigieg.
"A picture's worth a thousand words," said Vogel.
And the words Vogel wants to hear from Yellowbook are "I'm sorry."
