SOUTH BEND – We now know the name and background of the special investigator assigned to look into allegations made against the leader of St. Joseph County's Metro Homicide unit.

The prosecutor's office says David Steele, a former FBI agent, will conduct this special investigation. South Bend Police Corporal Jack Stilp filed a complaint against Metro Commander Tim Corbett. Corbett is accused of verbally threatening Stilp for talking about what was on tape recordings related to the wiretapping investigation into the South Bend Police Department.

Steele will report his findings to the County Metro Homicide Unit Board when he's done. The prosecutor's office says the board will then take appropriate action based on the report.
