Police in Jasper County say they responded to a call about a woman injured and unresponsive on the shoulder of I-65 Thursday. That woman, since identified as a South Bend resident, died from her injuries.

This happened at the 211 mile marker in the southbound lane, about four miles south of the Rensselaer exit.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that a black female had sustained life threatening injuries,” according to a news release from Indiana State Police. “When the trooper arrived a male was attempting to do CPR on her.  The occupants of the white 2002 Buick SUV were coming from Chicago headed to Indianapolis.  It is unknown at this time where the female sustained her injuries.”

One of the SUV occupants, 30-year-old Nathan Huey-Dingle of Chicago, was arrested and booked into Jasper County Jail on an outstanding warrant.

Rachael Savanna Woods, 20, or South Bend was airlifted to Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. She died from her injuries.

Police say this will not release more information at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
