SOUTH BEND – Classes in one building at Saint Mary's College were cancelled Monday and an event Monday night will be at a different location because of an overnight fire on campus.
Firefighters were called to O'Laughlin Auditorium just before 11 p.m. Sunday.
Security officers got there first and found stage curtains on fire.
No one was inside at the time.
There was a fire in this same building in November.
The cause of Sunday night's fire is under investigation, but a Saint Mary's College spokeswoman told us there's no correlation between the two fires.
“Totally different part of the building that was in the basement in a storage area, and this, of course, was on the stage,” said Director of Media Relations Gwen O’Brien.
O'Brien says classes in Moreau Hall, which is connected to O'Laughlin, will resume on Tuesday.
EVENT CHANGE: Because of Sunday night’s fire at O’Laughlin Auditorium on the campus of Saint Mary’s College, tonight's "An Evening with Audra McDonald" has been moved to Gillespie Center at the Hilton Garden Inn at the edge of campus. The talk by the Grammy- and Tony Award-winning actress is still scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
