ELKHART COUNTY – Police have arrested two people for one of the handful of cigarette store robberies over the last two weeks in Elkhart County.

Nicholas Chaplin, 24, and Abigail Pifer, 19, of Elkhart are behind bars for the holdup at Low Bob’s on Cassopolis Street near Simonton Lake on January 25. They were arrested on February 1.

Chaplin is being held in the Elkhart County Jail on $100,000 bond, while Pifer is in custody on $75,000 bond.

Since their arrest, two other tobacco stories have been robbed, including the same Low Bob’s.

A second heist at Low Bob’s happened during the Super Bowl Sunday night. Stogie’s on Old U.S. 20, west of the Elkhart city limits across from Walmart, was also robbed February 2.

Investigators are still looking for information on those robberies and two others at the Elkhart Cigarette Outlet and the Marathon Gas Station near Simonton Lake on January 25 and 29.

Captain Jim Bradberry of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department says the suspects are described as two white men who entered the stories while leaving their faces covered with bandanas or hoods. They took money, cartons of cigarettes and other items from the stores and left in a black passenger car or a gold SUV. There is usually a third suspect waiting outside.

Elkhart County police are working with other law enforcement agencies, including the Elkhart City Police Department to determine similarities and connections to each of the recent robberies.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department at (574) 533-4151.
