BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — People who live outside Monroe County who want to leave their pets at the Bloomington Animal Shelter will have to pay to do so starting next year.
The Bloomington City Council unanimously approved the fees as a way to ease budget issues and help reduce euthanasia rates.
Animal care and control director Laurie Ringquist told council members that 20 percent of the animals the shelter took in last year were from other counties.
The Herald-Times reports the drop-off fees will range from $10 to $35 depending on the animal's age and species.
