A big honor for a local soldier hurt in Afghanistan.
Lucas Oppelt of Mishawaka was just awarded the Purple Heart for being wounded in action.
The Army Sgt. stepped on an IED when he was serving as a medic with the 82nd Airborne.
He lost his foot in the blast.
Oppelt has not been back to his hometown since he got hurt, but that will change this weekend.
Oppelt is coming home to see his family for Thanksgiving.
He'll be at the Notre Dame game this weekend.
