PLYMOUTH - You'd know Max if you saw him. He’s super-friendly, loves kids, and is probably walking with a limp.

No one's seen the golden retriever since a bad wreck last Tuesday along US-31 near 16th Rd.

Dave Vitali was driving back to Grand Rapids from Georgia, when he lost control of his pickup and rolled.

“(Dave) was hanging by his seatbelt, they saw him hanging upside down, bleeding profusely,” said Aaron Vitali, Dave’s nephew, “Max was laying next to him or sitting next to him until all the sirens came and pulled up and that kind of scared her off.”

Max started running west of US-31 and that’s the last anyone saw of him, Aaron said.

“I called the radio station, had them make announcements, everybody that we see we tell them please look out for this dog,” said Cindy Washburn, who runs the Marshall County Humane Society, not far from where Max went missing.

They called homeowners who live near the crash site, asking if they’ve seen the dog. The Vitali family also posted an ad in the local newspaper, but so far, no luck.

“(Dave’s) little girl just adores this dog and would love nothing more but to have this dog back in time for Christmas,” said Aaron Vitali.
