Police say a woman rushing her passenger to Memorial Hospital because he was suffering a medical emergency ended up crashing into a utility pole, bringing down power lines across 933.
This happened around 12:30. The car went off the west side of the road for an unknown reason, hit the utility pole between two businesses in the 51000 block of 933, and came to a stop against a concrete barrier. A WSBT reporter at the scene says the barrier actually kept the car from crashing into a furniture store.
The occupants were trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated by first responders. They reportedly had minor injuries from the crash, but the male was taken to the hospital for his medical emergency and the woman was taken to get checked out as a precaution.
All lanes of that stretch of 933 were closed for a time because power lines downed in the crash were lying across the road. The pole itself actually caught on fire. Utility workers were called to the scene and the power to the lines was shut off.
The road has since reopened.
