ELKHART COUNTY – Lots of drugs, cash and guns were at the root of a big marijuana bust involving police from Elkhart and LaPorte Counties.

During a two-month investigation, the Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit (ICE) found a home in the eastern LaPorte County town of Rolling Prairie where drugs were being sold.

Police got a search warrant and raided the home on September 21.

3 people were inside, two adults and a 16-year-old boy.

Officers found 103 pounds of marijuana, 5.5 grams of cocaine, 1.9 grams of methamphetamine, a whopping $144,628 in cash and 3 handguns. One of the guns was reported stolen from Michigan.

The street value of the confiscated illegal drugs is estimated at $93,000.

The two adults, 32-year-old Joseph Olivo and 33-year-old Hayle Doty were taken into federal custody and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail. The teen was not arrested.

“It’s obvious that marijuana is still the centerpiece of illegal drug trafficking and is connected to violence and excessive amounts of cash,” said Elkhart County Prosecutor Curtis Hill.

The investigation continues.
