JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A mentally disabled man who appeared on a video that purportedly showed him being encouraged by a Mississippi city's employees to eat a mouthful of cinnamon as a prank says in an affidavit that the police chief later fired over the incident assisted him by directing him to water.

Tutwiler Police Chief Terry Tyler and four other city officials were fired Feb. 14 after 18-year-old Ted Martin ate the spice without water. Tyler's attorney, Carlos Moore, said Friday the affidavit shows Tyler tried to help Martin and deserves his job back.

Martin's attorney, Ellis Pittman, says an investigation will determine if Tyler was involved in any wrongdoing

The "Cinnamon Challenge" prank dries the mouth and usually causes people who try it to cough and spit.
