Lollapalooza headliners to include Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend

Mumford & Sons, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and the Killers will be among the headliners for Lollapalooza in Grant Park on Aug. 2-4.

Also confirmed by multiple industry sources are the National and the Postal Service (a reunion of Ben Gibbard and Jimmy Tamborello on the 10-year anniversary of their million-selling debut, “Give Up”). Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents said it would officially announce the lineup next month. “Early bird” tickets for the festival go on sale next Tuesday.

Lollapalooza, which relaunched in 2005 as a destination festival in Chicago, has become increasingly successful, consistently selling out 270,000 tickets over three days in recent years. The festival is expected to have a similar format to last year, with more than 100 artists arrayed on eight stages over three days.

British folk-rockers Mumford & Sons had last year’s best-selling rock album, “Babel,” and last February it won Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards. French popsters Phoenix will release a new album, “Bankrupt!,” next month, its first since the 2009 breakthrough, “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix.” New York indie rockers Vampire Weekend have slated their third album, “Modern Vampires of the City,” for May release. The Killers' fourth album, “Battle Born,” debuted at No. 3 on the pop chart last year.
